Countertop Maintenance

The following are some cleaning and maintenance tips for Granite, Quartz and Marble countertops.
  1. Regularly wash surfaces with water and a tiny amount of mild soap, such as dish soap, or items with a neutral pH.
  2. Never use cleaning products that contain vinegar, lemon, ammonia, or bleach.
  3. Granite surfaces should always be cleaned with a soft, clean sponge or towel. Keep a sponge on hand just for cleaning your countertops.
  4. As soon as a spill occurs, blot it up with a moist sponge. Make sure to dry the area using a soft cloth.
  5. Scrubbing pads and other abrasive cleaners should be avoided since they can scratch natural stone surfaces.
  6. To avoid water stains, place coasters under all bottles, cans, and glasses. Natural acids found in liquids like wine and juice can damage surfaces.
  7. Using placemats will help stop scuffs from plates and damage from dropped silverware.
  8. Avoid placing hot pots, plates, or other cookware on granite surfaces directly. Use trivets to avoid scratches and potential cracks brought on by the sudden rise in temperature.
  9. Do not cut anything directly on your new granite countertops. Granite is harder than stainless steel knives. Using them on Granite surface may dull them very quickly.
  10. Reseal your granite countertops when water droplets no longer bead on the surface
Additional maintenance tips and recommendations for light colored Granite, Quartz and Marble:
  1. Permanent markers marks can disfigure the surface that is not easy to clean. If you see a permanent ink stain on the countertop, you should first use routine care to get rid of the substance. Make sure to rinse the countertop thoroughly with warm water to clear the cleaner residue.
  2. Spices: Brightly colored spices like curry, turmeric, paprika, or chili powder can stain your countertop. These are among the most commonly spilled items when preparing food. The good news is that most of this discoloration is on the surface. Try wiping away spilled curry stains with a wet rag, adding dish soap is necessary.
  3. When you spill tomato sauce or hot sauce on your counters, clean it up as soon as possible.
  4. Food Coloring: Being a literal dye, food coloring has the potential to temporarily discolor your quartz. We recommend being careful when using food coloring in the kitchen—when possible, apply food coloring to your dish while standing over your sink. If you have spilled food coloring, clean it from your quartz as soon as possible.
